²⁰ Then they set out from ^(A)Succoth and camped in Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. ²¹ And ^(B)the Lord was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, so that they might ^[a]travel by day and by night. ^22 [b]He ^(C)did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from the presence of the people.

¹⁹ Then ^(A)the angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. ²⁰ So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud ^[a]along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Therefore the one did not approach the other all night.

^21 (A)Then Moses reached out with his hand over the sea; and the Lord ^[a]swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into ^(B)dry land, and ^(C)the waters were divided. ²² So ^(D)the sons of Israel ^[b]went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and ^(E)the waters were like a wall to them on their right and on their left. ²³ Then ^(F)the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea. ²⁴ But at the morning watch, ^(G)the Lord looked down on the ^[c]army of the Egyptians ^[d]through the pillar of fire and cloud, and brought the ^[e]army of the Egyptians into confusion. ²⁵ He ^[f]caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians each said, “Let me flee from Israel, ^(H)for the Lord is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”

³¹ When Israel saw the great ^[a]power which the Lord had ^[b]used against the Egyptians, the people ^[c]feared the Lord, and ^(A)they believed in the Lord and in His servant Moses.

⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, ^(A)I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, so that I may ^(B)test them, whether or not they will walk in My ^[a]instruction. ^5 (C)On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.”

^14 (A)When the layer of dew ^[a]evaporated, behold, on the ^[b]surface of the wilderness ^(B)there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. ¹⁵ When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “^[c]What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “^(C)It is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

⁵ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of ^(A)the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which ^(B)you struck the Nile, and go. ⁶ Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at ^(C)Horeb; and ^(D)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
